Just like the need for communicating with one another, we also have to talk (pray) to our Creator if we wish to receive His support. We can see clearly the importance of prayer in the last verse of surah Furqan “…My Lord will never care about you unless you appeal to Him…”
In some of his hadiths our Prophet (puh) states that there is no higher level of worship then to supplicate in the sight of Allah (swt)* and who ever has been granted the doors of prayer (duaa), has reached the doors of mercy. Our Prophet (puh) also states that Lord Almighty loves the prayer (dua) where health and well being is desired from Him and prayer (dua) is good for the things that come to reality and also those that don’t occur. The only thing that prevents accident is prayer (dua) and because of all this we must all hold firmly to prayer (dua)**
Our Prophet (puh) also shows us how to use prayer (dua) in the hadith where he states that one should ask for all his needs from Allah (swt), even his torn shoelace.*** For example before we sleep we must pray like; “Oh Allah! Give us good rest and beautiful dreams in our sleep. We ask for health and well being” or during our trips we can pray “Oh Allah! Prevent us from all the evils and all accidents that may occur in our trip. We ask to achieve the best result and return back to our family and property in the best possible way. During our trip we ask to be engaged only with the deeds that are good and that pleases You…”
We must always try and expand the dialogs we use during our prayers (duas). We can make up special prayers depending on our specific requirements. Our prayer (dua) is our main motivation in life and it is the sign of our target in existence in the universe.
Just like in this example;
- “Oh Allah! Help us to purify from all our bad habits and sins. Make us behave in the best of manners that pleases You at all times. We hope to be useful to all our relatives and neighbors. Please save us from the harsh life of this world and make us live a peaceful and healthy life. We seek for Your protection from doing any evil. Oh Allah! Please grant your prayers and awareness on us all times. We ask to be able to pray in the best possible way that You accept. Help us make the most of this short life to gain Your love in every moment of it and accept our souls in Your presence only when You feel that we are of those who has reached the highest ranks of Your paradise.”
We must demand all our requirements from our Creator and be firm in our prayer until we see beneficial result. We can quit smoking… lose weight… control our anger… etc. only if we stop telling it to each other and start asking help from Allah (swt).
Baqara 186 - If any of My servants ask you about Me, tell them that the Lord says, "I am near; I accept the prayers of those who pray." Let My servants answer My call and believe in Me so that perhaps they may know the right direction.
